*PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME OF 7.30PM This month, we are very excited to welcome another new project co-led by the amazing tenor saxophonists, Ollie Weston and Dom Franks. Get ready for some brilliant interplay and energy, rich in musical mastery, with their brand new project and quintet.
Ollie Weston is a brilliant UK saxophonist, well-known as a composer, band leader and prolific performer. He has performed in live and studio settings with artists including Amy Winehouse, Tim Minchin, Bonobo, Frank Turner, London Jazz Orchestra, Hackney Colliery Band, Ambient Jazz Ensemble, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, and many more.
Dom Franks is an award-winning musician, performer, composer and recording artist, inspired by the sounds of Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman and Chris Potter, and with his roots coming deeply from the vibes of the grand masters Sonny Rollins and Cannonball Adderley. His latest albums, Duality Part 1, and Duality Part 2, have been receiving rave reviews and airplay across the world.
This is the second time that Ollie and Dom have come together, and we’re delighted to welcome their brand new collaboration to Smokey Joe’s Jazz Club. Ollie and Dom will be joined by the Smokey Joe’s awesome jazz house band, with the barefoot energy, flying socks and passion of Alex ‘Man of’ Steele on piano; the mighty groove merchant, Mike Cypher on drums; and the beautifully melodic, lyrical, eloquent and effervescent, Mike ‘Moyk’ Green on double bass.
