Come start the year with a stunning concert of music by two of Melbourne's best string players.Anne-Marie Johnson is currently an associate concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and she joins forces in this concert with William Vyvyan Murray to present fascinating new and old music for Violin and Viola.
The program opens with Ruby Hunter's 'Welcome to all people', then moves from Australia to Hawaii for indigenous composer Leilehua Lanzilotti's beautiful Ko'u Inoa. Next comse three masterworks from Europe - Georges Enescu's Impressions d'enfance, Erzsébet Szőnyi wonderful duo from late in the 20th century and 4 of Bela Bartok's great duos.
The second half features W. A. Mozart's stunning duo written for his dear friend Michael Haydn and Kaaija Saariaho's eerie Aure written for her dear friend Henri Dutilleux's 95th birthday. The concert finishes up with Australian premiere of Oene Van Geel's 'Slonimsky's Scherzo", and William Vyvyan Murray's three new "Bee" duos!
