About this Event
From political non-fiction, to poetry, to spiritual awakenings by OG writers and brilliant newcomers — The Thawra Book Club has been delving into a wide range of interesting topics that touch on the way we as ethnic minorities navigate our places in society.
This month, we'll be reading Arundhati Roy's debut memoir Mother Mary Comes To Me — as Roy’s first work of memoir, this is a soaring account, both intimate and inspiring, of how the author became the person and the writer she is, shaped by circumstance, but above all by her relationship to her extraordinary, singular mother Mary, who she describes as ‘my shelter and my storm’.
Our in-person book club will be held on 30th January at Penguin Random House UK, One Embassy Gardens, 8 Viaduct Gardens, London, SW11 7BW. Expect lots of great discussion, delicious refreshments and good vibes! We want this space to be a complete free, creative space for all to feel comfortable in voicing their thoughts and opinions — no matter how relevant you think it is and how much of the book you've read. Feel free to bring your physical/digital copy along with you!
Please note: the book is not included with this ticket purchase. Please follow us across social media to stay updated.
There will be photography/filming during the event. Please let us know at the beginning of the event if you do not wish to be photographed.
