About this Event
This special Juneteenth-inspired Design Lab is designed for young creators ages 8–11 who love to build, create, and explore.
This experience blends art, STEM, and confidence-building, helping kids learn that design is about thinking, planning, and making intentional choices, not just decorating.
Through hands-on creative and STEM-based activities, students will celebrate freedom, expression, and innovation while building confidence and having fun.

THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Design a tote bag that represents OUR culture.
Participants will:
- Plan their design before creating
- Follow a step-by-step design process used by real designers and engineers
Every tote is unique—because every child is unique.
WHAT KIDS WILL LEARN
- The Engineering Design Process (Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Reflect)
- Color theory and symbolism
- Planning, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Creative confidence and self-expression
WHAT THEY’LL CREATE
Each participant will design and take home:
- A custom tote bag
- New confidence in explaining their ideas and choices
