In conjunction with World AIDS Day, we are excited to speak with Prof. (Dr) Roy Chan for our next SQMP Storyteller Series event.
About this Event

Prof. (Dr) Roy Chan had been a crucial leader, organiser, advocate, and medical professional in the fight against HIV infection and AIDS in Singapore. Hear about the early years of HIV/AIDS awareness in Singapore, and the challenges in organising Action for AIDS and the role of the lesbian community caring for their gay and bisexual brothers. Listen to Roy speak about watching firsthand the changes in Singapore’s gay community and scene.

The Storyteller Series is a part of the Singapore Queer Memory Project (sqmp.sg), a multi-year project to reclaim Singapore’s queer history.

About the Speakers

Prof. (Dr) Roy CHAN
Senior Consultant and Former Director, National Skin Centre
Founder and President, Action for AIDS Singapore

Prof. (Dr) Roy CHAN trained in medicine at the University of Singapore, with postgraduate dermatology and STI training in London and public health in HIV at UCLA. He has held leadership roles at the National Skin Centre, the Skin Research Institute of Singapore, and the National STI Programme, and founded Action for AIDS, serving as its President. His clinical and research interests span STI, HIV, cutaneous infections, and hair diseases. A recognised public health leader, he has received numerous national and international awards, including the NHG Lifetime Achievement Award, and recently served as President of the 25th World Congress of Dermatology.


Dr Rayner Kay Jin TAN
Assistant Professor
National University of Singapore

Dr Rayner Kay Jin TAN is Assistant Professor and leads The Courage Lab at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. He is an implementation and behavioural scientist whose work spans areas of stigma and health, community engagement, and health equity. He is also Head of Research at The Greenhouse Community Services Limited and a board member of Project X. He is co-lead at SG Mental Health Matters which aims to spur public engagement in mental health policymaking.
