"We can all be different!" is the preface heading of Feyannie Hung’s book that she wrote when she was 18 years old. At the mere age of 15, Fey came all the way from Taiwan to Canada as an exchange student. Ever since then, the two places have become significant in her life. Though she returned to Taiwan after one year of exchange, her dream of becoming a film director eventually brought her back to Canada. Her unique encounters, especially her Taiwanese heritage, continue to motivate her to keep telling inspiring stories on the world stage.

Fey will appear at the Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival as a guest speaker. This panel is an opportunity for Fey to connect with the younger generation of storytellers, and share her stories working in both the Taiwanese and Canadian film industries. She will also give insights into the impacts of Taiwanese filmmakers on the international scene.

Guest Speaker: Feyannie Hung
A Taiwanese-Canadian filmmaker, actress, and author who graduated from the University of British Columbia BFA Film Production. She has been part of the production team for the critically acclaimed Taiwanese film American Girl (2021). Now working as a production coordinator for the Academy Award-winning studio DNEG, she has worked on production teams including Netflix’s Stranger Things, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and HBO’s The Last of Us. She has years of experience working as a director, producer, and actress in commercials and films. She has worked on international projects and collaborates with professional teams. Her films include Cheers (2019), Especially Joy (2019), and Coming Home to Myself (2022).
