Rhythm & Blues singer and songwriter Rob Picazo brings heart-wrenching Memphis-inspired Soul to The Speakeasy Party. Born in Madrid and based in London, Rob’s love for Blues, Soul and Gospel date back to his teenage years, as regular explorations of his father’s vast record collection and the music of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Solomon Burke gave way to an obsession marked by listening, research and adulation. Over time, all these influences inspired Rob to write songs with themes of vulnerability, intensity and heartache.
Rob’s songs travel the map of US Soul, R&B and Gospel, drawing inspiration from the sounds of Chicago, New Orleans and, of course, Memphis in the 60s and 70s. Rob’s album was recorded in the heart of Soulsville with a stunning band that featured Memphis legend Charles Hodges (Hi Records, Al Green) on the Hammond B3. With Rob’s caramel vocals sitting atop a stew of boiling guitars, simmering organ, soulful horns and funky rhythms, he’s set to make his mark in the history of Southern Soul.
