About this Event
The South LA Recap Screening: The Story of LA Lutheran High School
Can memories overcome the truth of reality? This is the case for a group of LA Lutheran High School alumni and former faculty. In the Hyde Park neighborhood of South LA, the former Dr. Walter A. Maier Memorial (LA) Lutheran High School was the first Lutheran high school west of the Rockies, the first in California, right on the western edge of the region. While its 76-year history is filled with first, bright, and monumental moments, the school could never regain its footing on its firm foundation and fell out of existence after the occurrence of key events.
Yet, even though this school no longer exists, the camaraderie, admiration, and love around the school has only grown stronger. But how? In reflecting on the past, the LA Lutheran High School alumni and faculty pave a road to understanding the importance of this school's stories years later.
Join us for an in-person experience in exploring the unique history of LA Lutheran High School and its unique roots in South Los Angeles, and explore a dynamic chain of events as told by several alumni and former faculty.
The Story of LA Lutheran High School has a runtime of roughly one hour and ten minutes. A 30-minute Q&A with filmaker and South LA Recap will follow directly after the presentation.
There are a limited number of seats reserved for this screening.
