SEPTEMBER 6: EIKO NISHIDA |
BARK TAROT

It is an audience-participatory installation. Each bark incorporates a cut-out word from local or major newspapers in multiple languages distributed in New York. Words are living entities, each shaped with unique meanings by individual perspectives. As audiences engage with the installation, they are encouraged to contemplate their question in the present moment, and select a bark from the multitude available, revealing what the Universe has to say to them.

Eiko Nishida is a Hiroshima-born and Brooklyn-based Japanese artist. Nishida produces a site-specific installation with a wide range of materials, and she often invites the audience to immerse themselves in the experience. Her themes are language, perspective, and being present. Nishida's work has been shown internationally, including Chuo Gakuen (2025, Mexico City, Mexico), Strawberry Creek Park (2025, Berkeley, California, U.S.A.), Pil Seung Sa (2024, Seoul, South Korea), KIOSK (2023, Glasgow, Scotland), Atamian Hovsepian Curatorial Practice (2023, New York, U.S.A.), Gallery G (2019, Hiroshima, Japan), Singapore Art Book Fair (2014, Singapore), and featured by several publications, including The Berkeley Times (2025, U.S.A.), The North American Post (2024, U.S.A.), Chugoku Newspaper (2023, Japan), Hyperallergic (2023, U.S.A.), AFTERGLOBE, (2014, Singapore) among many others.
