In this workshop, we’ll explore bioluminescence in nature, and use it as a material to create living art and design.
About this Event

Design with bioluminescent bacteria in this hands-on bioart experience!

Bioluminescence, or the ability of organisms to emit and produce light, is a phenomenon that is both aesthetically beautiful and scientifically intriguing.

In this workshop, we’ll explore bioluminescent bacteria as a material for experimental art and design applications.

You’ll design your own Vibrio fischeri bioluminescent bacteria culture and use experimental art techniques to design the growth and shape of your culture. We’ll also dive into some of the science behind why bioluminescence occurs, and speculate on the potential of using sustainable bioluminescent life as a light source.
