About this Event
The Singer-Songwriters is a new six-week lecture series featuring musicologist and historian Dr. Mike Daley. With his usual impeccable research and engaging style, Dr. Mike tells the story of the classic period of the singer-songwriter from 1965-1975, when Carole King, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Jim Croce, John Denver, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon and others emerged as songwriter-performers. Dr. Mike explains how these musicians retooled popular songwriting with personal, poetic lyrics and diverse musical influences.
The lectures, richly illustrated with archival video and images along with live musical demonstrations by Dr. Mike, are an hour in length. The talk is followed by a short break and then questions are welcomed from the in-person audience as well as on Zoom. Within a day or so of the lecture, a link to the lecture video will be sent to the email address with which you purchased the series. This link will not expire.
The lectures will take place in-person at Church of the Redeemer (Bloor and Avenue), as well as live on Zoom, and videos of the lectures will be available afterwards for unlimited viewing. You're not locked into one or the other - you can choose between any of the three ways of viewing the lecture each week, whichever suits your schedule or preference.
You can purchase the series of six lectures for $84 plus tax and ticketing fee, or tickets for single lectures will be available at the door for $20, cash only.
