The Sun Inn is a beloved gastro pub nestled in the suburban village of Hardingstone. Established in 1850, it embodies the essence of a classic English pub, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
The Barn, which adjoins the pub, offers a private and cosy setting for the jazz nights. It features its own private bar and toilets - separate from the main pub, ensuring an exclusive and comfortable atmosphere for guests to enjoy live jazz.
About The Simon Spillett Trio
Simon Spillett - Saxophone
Simon Spillett is widely recognised as one of the UK’s foremost tenor saxophonists, celebrated for a commanding tone, fierce improvisational flair, and a deep-rooted commitment to the hard-bop tradition. His career has spanned decades and includes leading both his own quartet and big band, as well as championing the repertoire of legendary UK tenor-sax icon Tubby Hayes. He regularly appears at some of Britain’s most prestigious jazz venues, including the iconic Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Whether fronting a quartet, big band or appearing as guest sideman, Spillett continues to be a major presence on the UK jazz scene.
Pete Billington - Keys
Pete Billington is a highly versatile pianist and keyboard player whose harmonic sophistication and adaptability have made him a regular and in-demand presence on the British jazz circuit. He is known for his sensitive accompaniment, creative solos, and ability to blend well in everything from hard-bop to modern jazz contexts. Billington appears frequently at some of London’s top jazz clubs. He has played at Ronnie Scott’s, the basement 606 Club, and the Soho basement Pizza Express Jazz Club, performing with a wide range of British jazz artists. He currently serves as the regular pianist in Simon Spillett’s quartet, working alongside leading UK jazz musicians.
Alec Dankworth - Double Bass
Alec Dankworth is one of Britain’s most respected double bassists, known for a rich, resonant tone, rhythmic precision, and a melodic sensibility that turns the bass into more than just foundation, often giving it a voice of its own. Over his long career, Dankworth has played and recorded with many of jazz’s legends (both UK- and US-based), and has been a first-call bassist for leading bands and ensembles. Dankworth’s club credits include performances at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, for example as part of a trio with pianist John Horler. He also plays regularly with modern groups and ensembles, including involvement in the band lineups of Spillett’s quartet and big band.
