About this Event
The Siblings Panel
Featuring Andrew Martin, Christine Smallwood, and Lynn Steger Strong
Wine reception to follow
Literary friends and local authors Andrew Martin (Down Time, Early Work, Cool for America), Christine Smallwood (The Life of the Mind, La Captive), and Lynn Steger Strong (The Float Test, Flight, Want) come together for a discussion on siblings in literature. From Abel and Cain to Antigone to Grete and Gregor Samsa, siblings have long been rich material for telling stories. What does this particular and specific, sometimes galvanizing, sometimes intimate, sometimes horrifying and fatal dynamic help us see and understand about loving, wanting, and trying to survive the people that we came from? What makes it such a fruitful and elastic space to tell stories? Martin, Smallwood and Strong all address these questions in their fiction and nonfiction work, and talk about siblings and writing at this special panel event.
