Join us for a Celebration of Lexington County’s Namesake: The Battle of Lexington and ConcordOn April 19, 2025, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., history comes to life at Lexington’s Old Mill Pond Trail as the community is invited to gather for “The Shot Heard Round the World”, a special 250th-American Revolution anniversary celebration of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. This commemorative event honors the rich history behind Lexington County’s namesake with an evening of engaging programs, music, and more. At this family-friendly event, attendees can expect a meaningful and immersive experience that highlights the enduring legacy of America’s fight for independence.
On April 19, 1775, colonial militia stood their ground against British forces in Massachusetts, igniting the American Revolution. This pivotal moment became known as the “Shot Heard Round the World,” a phrase immortalized by Ralph Waldo Emerson. To honor this legacy, Lexington County was officially named in 1785, replacing the name Saxe Gotha, and forever linking South Carolina to this pivotal historical event. Lexington would have its share of Revolutionary War action, including the Battle of Tarrar Springs, fought just one mile east of Lexington on November 16, 1781.
Now, 250 years later, we invite you to relive the past with a family-friendly, interactive celebration featuring: living history demonstrations, hands-on history activities, and more—including a spirited tribute to the “Shot Heard Round the World.”
The event will feature:
- Living history exhibits that transport you to the colonial era
- Lantern tours for an immersive historical experience with actors from the Soda City Theatre Company
- Cannon demonstrations that echo the sounds of revolution
- Hands-on activities presented by the Cayce Historical Museum and Lexington County Museum
- A special 7:30 PM toast (for guests 21 and older) with a shot of locally crafted cinnamon whiskey from Hollow Creek Distillery—a spirited tribute to the "Shot Heard Round the World"
