Join the Friends of Gloucester Waterways Museum at this talk by Chris Witts about the Severn Bridge Disaster. On a particularly bad and foggy night in 1960 two barges lost their way on the Severn Estuary and crashed into the Severn Railway Bridge. The two petrol barges ignited, setting the Severn alight, and five men were tragically killed. Join Chris Witts, Chair of the Friends of Gloucester Waterways museum, who witnessed the event from the oil tanker he was working on as a 16-year-old-boy.
Friends of Gloucester Waterways Museum members can come along to the talk for free. There is a £2 charge for non-members. Refreshments are available from the Museum café.
When: Tuesday 17th March 2026, 10.30am (doors open 10am).
Where: National Waterways Museum Gloucester
