About this Event

Fel rhan o ddathliadau Dydd Gŵyl Dewi a Diwrnod Rhyngwladol y Menywod ar ddechrau Mis Mawrth, mae'r Canolfan Llywodraethiant Cymru yn cynnal darlith gwadd gyda'r Athro Rosie Campbell (King's College London) a'r Athro Sarah Childs (Prifysgol Caeredin) i drafod etholiad y Senedd 2026 o safbwynt gweddill y Deyrnas Unedig.
As part of the celebrations for St. David's Day and International Women's Day at the start of March, the Wales Governance Centre is delighted to host this guest lecture from Professor Rosie Campbell (King's College London) and Professor Sarah Childs (University of Edinburgh) to discuss the 2026 Senedd election from the perspective of the rest of the United Kingdom.

Etholiad y Senedd 2026: Safbwyntiau o’r tu allan i Gymru

Yn y ddarlith hon, bydd Sarah Childs a Rosie Campbell yn myfyrio ar etholiadau’r Senedd yn 2026, a beth allen nhw eu golygu i Gymru a thu hwnt. Bu Sarah a Rosie yn rhan o Banel Arbenigol ar Ddiwygio Etholiadol y Cynulliad dan drefniadau rhannu swydd. Yn ysbryd y cydweithrediad hwnnw, byddan nhw’n rhannu’r ddarlith hon hefyd!

Bydd y ddarlith yn dechrau gyda myfyrdodau o Gaeredin a Llundain gan ystyried etholiadau’r Senedd o fewn y dirwedd etholiadol ehangach, ac o fewn gwleidyddiaeth Prydain yn fwy cyffredinol. Byddan nhw’n trafod y gwaith a wnaed i ddiwygio’r Senedd, gan gynnwys cwotâu rhywedd deddfwriaethol a threfniadau rhannu swydd. Bydd cyfraniad Sarah yn adlewyrchu gwersi a ddysgwyd wrth gynnal archwiliadau seneddol sy’n sensitif i rywedd a gweithio gyda grwpiau cynghori seneddol sy’n sensitif i rywedd yn Senedd y DU a’r Alban. Bydd Rosie yn ystyried tueddiadau rhwng cenedlaethau ym marn y cyhoedd sy’n llunio gwleidyddiaeth etholiadol mewn sawl cenedl ôl-ddiwydiannol a beth y gallai’r rhain olygu i Gymru.

In this Lecture Sarah Childs and Rosie Campbell reflect on the 2026 Senedd elections, what they might portend for Wales and beyond. Sarah and Rosie, participated in the Expert Panel for Electoral Reform of the Welsh Assembly as a job share. In the spirit of that cooperation they will jobshare this lecture too! The lecture will start with reflections from Edinburgh and London considering the Senedd elections within the wider electoral landscape, and within British politics more generally.

They will discuss the work undertaken to reform the Senedd, including legislative gender quotas and jobshare. Sarah’s contribution will reflect on lessons learned undertaking gender sensitive parliamentary (GSP) audits and working with GSP Advisory Groups in both the UK and the Scottish Parliament. Rosie will consider generational trends in public opinion that are shaping electoral politics in many post-industrial nations and what these might mean for Wales.
