About this Event
Harvey Marcus - previous titles include BENEATH THE CLOCKTOWER (Acquired by the National Film Archive in 2020) and the critically acclaimed WATERLOO SUNSET (2024) - shares his journey from picking up a camera 10 years ago, to the inside story of how his latest low-budget feature PARIS 75 - The European Football became one of the biggest — if not the biggest — independent releases at the UK box office in 2025 - ending the year at #30 in the domestic box office charts. A truly autonomous production, PARIS 75 was conceived, shot, edited, distributed, marketed and PR’d entirely by the filmmaker himself, selling out 250 seater venues from Leeds Hyde Park Picture House to the Irish Film Institute and playing across the UK in both independent cinemas and major chains like Showcase and Everyman. Featured in The Guardian, The Times, TalkSport and more — and selected by the widely respected European film professor, critic and festival programmer, Olaf Möller, as one of his films of the Year — its success unlocked conversations independent filmmakers rarely get to have: investors, lawyers, distributors, cinema programmers, theatre-manager, box-office splits, seat pricing, merch manufacturing, and the realities (good and bad) of UK independent cinema. In this one-off two-hour talk and Q&A, Harvey shares a rare insight into how independent film in UK really works and how you can make it work for you.
