Many critics consider Victor Sjöström’s 1926 adaptation of THE SCARLET LETTER, starring Lillian Gish and Lars Hanson, the best and most faithful film treatment of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic American novel. Gish is at her most emotionally nuanced as her character faces judgment and isolation at the hands of her Puritan community. Join us for this FREE event, part of the Ohio-Goes-to-the-Movies initiative, with a live original compilation score performed by the Cleveland Photoplayers, Eric Charnofsky, director.Introductory remarks on Sjöstrom and Gish's cinematic collaborations by Prof. Jonah Horwitz. Talkback with the musicians and a free reception following the film!
