Some songs rock. Some songs get lovingly… rearranged.For this year’s I Wanna Rock 5K, the plan is to lean into the fine art of the sendup. The spoof. The bit where a perfectly good anthem gets a lyrical detour, a clever twist, and maybe a playful yank on the original idea before sending it back out into the world that much ridiculous-er than before.
Al-beit unofficial, the theme of the race (for me, anyway) is simple: celebrate the joy of a song that sounds familiar but refuses to take itself too seriously. Expect plenty of 80s rock energy, a few lyrical curveballs, and a performance that may unfold somewhat accordion-ly as the miles go by.
After all, when the music’s this good, it would be almost un-American not to parody it a little.
