About Arsalan:
"Bardsong Music & Storytelling:
Various diverse stories from the streets, the fields, the homes and haunts of people making their way through a roiling globalized world; as told by Arsalan Ibrahim, accompanying each story with the music of the Kora in the ancient Mandingo tradition showing how all the threads of the different tales weave the tapestry of our modern reality.
A performance with stories told in songs that blend one into the other without break or with intermission(s) allowing patrons to commune and digest each piece exploring overarching themes relevant not only to the lives of their subjects but to the listeners; this is the essence of Mandingo story-telling: connection with those who would otherwise seem separate.
ARSALAN IBRAHIM:
"Arsalan Ibrahim’s life was turned upside-down one day with the purchase of a West African music CD. This marked the start of a long journey into deep connection with his ancestry and lineage of storytelling. Today, Ibrahim is a Jeli of the Mande tradition, using the kora as the vehicle to pass on stories and support the bridge of knowledge between Africa and North America."
