The Rose City Pride Bands invites you to an evening of powerful music and timely reflection with An American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard? This concert explores America as a living question rather than a fixed identity. Through voices both celebrated and marginalized, the music asks who has been heard, who has been silenced, and how sound itself becomes an act of belonging.
Selections include:
– Morton Gould’s American Salute
– Frank Ticheli’s Shenandoah
– Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 1
– Viet Cuong’s John and Jim
– Giacomo Rossini’s Overture to William Tell
Since its founding in 1990, the Rose City Pride Bands has been a place for LGBTQ+ musicians and supportive friends to play, perform, and participate in Portland’s musical community. Today, the Rose City Pride Bands comprises a wind symphony, a symphonic band, a swing band, and a marching band and colorguard, as well as several smaller performing groups.
Join the Rose City Pride Bands for An American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard? Together, we will experience music that challenges, comforts, and calls us forward, reminding us that music is an act of care and that every voice matters.
