About this Event

Join us for a journey into the roots of Hatha Yoga

“The main objective of Hatha yoga is to create an absolute balance of the interacting activities and processes of the physical body, mind and (vital) energy.” - Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Take your Hatha yoga practice deeper and explore the roots and layers of this systematic practice. Experience the energetics of Hatha yoga and its linkages with the mind, nervous system, breath and life force energy.

Join us at “The roots of hatha yoga”, a wisdom-filled event where we will deep dive into classical Hatha yoga, explore its origins, and investigate Asana and Pranayama through the lens of ancient texts and lineages. Along with embodied practices, we will explore the “Queen of Asanas” - Sarvangasana or shoulderstand - exploring inversions as a form of Mudra.

We are excited to create this first-of-its-kind opportunity in Vancouver to go beyond the typical 1-1.5 hour Hatha yoga physical practice and nerd out about the deeper realms of this timeless practice. Whether you’re a new Hatha yoga practitioner or someone who’s practiced or taught it for years, we will offer authentic nuances and comparative approaches to foster clarity and inspire your further explorations.

As yoga teachers, Heather Lalita Silberberg and Nima Padmanabhan have trained in the Classical Hatha Yoga tradition as well as comparative lineages and will share from their respective experiences.

Our goals:

1. Create a space of safety, curiosity, clarity and inspired practice

2. Cast light on the vast body of knowledge and practice that Hatha yoga offers us, properly rooted in yoga’s key texts

3. Enable both a theoretical and embodied understanding through two guided practices supplemented with a breakdown of one of the most important Asanas - Sarvangasana

Heather Lalita Silberberg bio (IG: @heatherlalita)

Heather grew up inspired by her grandmother who taught Sivananda yoga in Montreal. Heather is rooted in Classical Hatha yoga - Sivananda is her core practice, and she has studied and trained with master teachers in Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions. These complementary lineages inform her approach of classical Hatha yoga: balance, steadiness and inner clarity. Teaching from the heart and from a place of service, she seeks to provide a calm and meditative space to make these traditional practices accessible, and the philosophy relevant, to modern life. When we practice yoga as a balance between effort and surrender, we lay the groundwork for deep compassion and inner peace.

Nima Padmanabhan bio (IG: @flowwithnima)

Nima grew up immersed in the wisdom of yoga and Ayurveda. Building from these roots, she has sought to gain a deeper understanding of the therapeutic and contemplative aspects of these practices. She has trained globally with teachers across lineages, including Classical Hatha and Nada Yoga, and continues to advance her learning as a lifelong student. Her teaching is focused on fostering awareness and connection, and empowering others on their physical, spiritual and healing journeys. Nima weaves explorations in mobility, balance, strength, breath and meditation into her teaching, encouraging a practice that embraces compassion, play and reflection.
