Join us for our The Relationship Drives the Scene Improv Master Class with Susie Sargent and explore how shared history, affection, or loyalty shape interactions on stage. When:
Saturday, May 30th, 2-5 PM
Where:
The Eagle Theater - 921 Front St, Old Sacramento - California Historical Landmark #595. Parking information is here.
About:
Strong scenes are driven by who the characters are to each other, not just what they are doing. When the relationship is clear, the scene has direction, stakes, and emotional grounding from the start.
In this workshop, improvisers practice establishing relationships quickly and letting that dynamic guide behavior, dialogue, and decisions. Through focused exercises and coached scenes, you’ll explore how shared history, affection, or loyalty shape interactions on stage. Instead of defaulting to activity or plot, you’ll learn to make the relationship the engine of the scene.
Leave with practical tools for creating grounded connections that give your scenes clarity, momentum, and something meaningful to play.
Accessibility:
The Eagle Theater is a historic building and offers the following accessibility features:
Wheelchair-accessible audience seating, including ramped access
Accessible public restrooms located across the street

About the instructor:
Susie Sargent has been teaching and performing improv for thirty years. She trained at BATS Improv in San Francisco, where the focus is on character, relationship, and storytelling. She performs and teaches at festivals around the country as half of the duo Wine & Weasels. Susie loves helping people find joy, connection, and self-discovery through improv. She emphasizes listening and responding over “who’s the funniest,” so students experience true collaborative storytelling. Susie teaches with humor, warmth, and her own vulnerability, inviting students to push their comfort zones gently, at their own pace, so they can grow while feeling supported.
