Review of Ian's talks: I’m really looking forward to Ian Beckett’s upcoming lecture, “The Real Dad’s Army.”
I attended Ian’s lecture on Zulu a year or so ago, and it was both highly informative and thoroughly engaging. He managed to present the real historical facts of Rorke’s Drift without in any way diminishing the drama and excitement of the film. His clear, factual account also made me realise just how much my 1969 O-level History teacher’s interpretation of Rorke’s Drift was viewed through rather rose-coloured spectacles!
Ian has a wonderful way of bringing history to life — accessible, thought-provoking, and enjoyable for specialists and non-specialists alike. I can wholeheartedly recommend this upcoming talk.
