ABOUT THE READ IN
The Read In is a program of More of This: A Creative Learning Community—a space we’ve built to expand access, literacy, and connection through shared learning and cultural exchange. Facilitated by Mariah Ivey and Hallie Raikes, and supported by Artists At Work and the Center for Black Literature & Culture, this gathering invites you to slow down, sit with good reads, and be in conversation with the text and with each other—in ways that feel thoughtful, honest, and nourishing.
Book Club Kickoff
At our first gathering, we will:
- Read and reflect on a short essay (provided after you register).
- Share more about the vision for More of This and what we're dreaming up for the year ahead.
- Spend time getting to know one another over light refreshments and drinks.
- Introduce our first full group read: How We Show Up : Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community by Mia Birdsong.
No pressure, no prerequisites—you don’t have to be an avid reader or writer to be here. This is a space to show up as you are, get back into the rhythm of reading, or to stay grounded in it and to learn along the way.
