The Rag & Moan Men
The Rag & Moan Men have been playing acoustic blues, folk, Roots, Americana, and a little bit of jazz for over 10 years. Entertaining audiences in pubs, clubs, wine bars, festivals and theatres across the south of England, they are living proof that the Basingstoke and Kennet Canal is a long-lost tributary of the Mississippi Delta.
The name comes from “Rag”, as in Ragtime and “Moan” as in Wild Ox Moan, Black Snake Moan, Clarksdale Moan and all those other early blues classics. But the repertoire extends well beyond the music of the 20s and 30s to encompass the whole blues diaspora, to include songs by the likes of JJ Cale, Little Feat, Van Morrison, the Rolling Stones and even Sam Cooke. The common denominator is that all the material has the Blues embedded deep within its DNA.
Martin Wood (vocals and guitars)
Founding member of the band, Martin has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the blues and is a slide guitar obsessive. He’s been compared with early Ry Cooder (by one who actually played with him in the early days.)
Andy Wilkin (percussion and vocals)
Another blues obsessive, Andy has played with countless bands over countless years, always providing more than just a solid beat on a wide variety of percussion he has collected from around the world.
Dominic Geraghty (double bass)
Vastly experienced, having played all styles of music with all sorts of bands, Dominic adds so much more to the band than just the standard bass lines, always playing with originality and imagination.
Flavio Bosi (Harmonica)
He might have been born in Italy, but Flav blows harp like he’d been raised in the delta. Another blues obsessive, his enthusiasm is infectious and adds so much more to the band.
