The Gospel Soul Series hosted by Debra James Tucker continues with Grammy award-winning Gospel recording artist The Quan Howell Project Presents: A Tribute Show To Bebe and Cece Winans. Experience an exciting time as they honor one of the greatest Duet groups in the world. To celebrate their iconic sound, Quan invited Camillie Betton-Williams, Timothy Williams, Ron Lyles, Maria Walker aka Ria Blaq, Tana Glover and many more.
Quan Howell, a former lead singer of Sounds of Blackness—a vocal and instrumental ensemble from Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota—Quan performed a variety of genres, including gospel, R&B, soul, and jazz. The group achieved several hits on the Billboard R&B and Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in the 1990s, with Quan leading the charge on their number one hit “Hold On (Change Is Comin')”.
Quan has collaborated with entertainment mogul Tyler Perry and appeared in many of his plays, working with world-renowned casting directors. He has shared the stage with legends such as Ann Nesby, Rod Stewart, Johnny Gill, New Edition, Salt-N-Pepa, Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann, and many other famous artists. Additionally, he has contributed to soundtracks for films like “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “Down in the Delta,” and “The Apostle,” and worked with acclaimed movie producers Andrew Lloyd Weber and Walt Disney.
The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer-winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
