Join WCE Calgary on May 12 for The Psychology of Negotiation, an interactive workshop led by Mariel Higuerey. Explore how emotions, cognitive biases, and power dynamics shape negotiation outcomes, and learn practical strategies to stay steady, credible, and effective in high‑stakes conversations.
Negotiation outcomes are shaped less by logic and more by perception, emotion, and power dynamics. Participants will examine emotional triggers, cognitive biases, and perceived power imbalances. We’ll discuss anchoring, framing, loss aversion, and overconfidence, and introduce practical strategies for regulating emotion, managing difficult tactics, and maintaining ethical influence under pressure. The session connects emotional intelligence directly to negotiation credibility.
Mariel will guide us to apply these concepts through guided reflection and practice. You’ll revisit a challenging negotiation, identify emotional triggers and power assumptions, practice reframing and neutral language, and take part in a role‑play scenario with a “difficult counterpart” to apply emotional regulation strategies in real time.
Whether you negotiate daily or occasionally, this workshop will strengthen your ability to navigate tension, build trust, and achieve more intentional outcomes.

Parking: Parking at Platform Calgary can be accessed on 9th Avenue and 3rd Street SE. All parking in the Platform Parkade is managed by the Calgary Parking Authority. The evening rate of $4 is applicable for entry after 4pm. Payment can be made at the pay machines in the lobby of the West and East Parkade or through the Calgary Parking Authority app (Zone 9062).
