The theme is,The Psychology of Believing: Trauma Disclosures and High-Emotion Communicate. When an individual builds the courage to disclose abuse or trauma, the initial reaction they receive can alter their entire path of healing. Yet, high-emotion situations often trigger our own defensive or anxious responses, making constructive communication difficult. This practical session dives into the psychological underpinnings of why believing survivors is visually and behaviorally complex, and it equips you with practical tools to navigate these critical conversations. The session will include a review of the neurobiology of disclosure, the awareness required to overcome the “skepticism reflex,” and developmentally-informed communication tools to foster an environment of validation and healing.
