Join the launch event of People for Education's multi-city series: Promise of Public Education: the role of public schools in nation-building.
This first in the series will discuss how public schools prepare future-ready citizens and their role in supporting a more productive, resilient, and sovereign Canada. Panelists will explore the origins of Canadaβs public education systems as tools for nation-building and discuss how they can evolve to serve us today and in the future.
The event will begin with special presentations from:
- Annie Kidder, founder of People for Education, about the history of public education in Canada; and
- Andrew Parkin, Executive Director of Environics Institute, speaking about the state of Canadian education.
People for Education's co-Executive Director, Paris Semansky, will moderate the panel discussion with the following experts:
- Noel Baldwin, Executive Director, Future Skills Centre
- Chris Cowley, President, Ontario Teachers' Federation
- Mitch Davidson, Vice-President, Policy, Enterprise Canada
- Priya Tandon, President, Ontario Mining Association
- Lauren Tedesco, Chief Operating Officer, Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association (APMA)
The panel will be followed by a networking reception.

With a distinct policy theme focus, ranging from economic resilience to social cohesion to civic trust to climate readiness, each event will highlight how public education can contribute to strengthening Canadaβs resilience and prosperity.
