3 Class Sessions:1:00-3:00pm on Saturdays March 1st, 8th, & 16th
Have you been wishing for more time and support so you can write? This class will provide inspiration and structure to get you started on a first draft of a short story.
In this class, we will:
- Discuss the week's reading to develop our sense of what a short story can do.
- Review core craft aspects of writing a contemporary short story and apply what we learned via guided writing prompts.
- Use the focusing power of in-community writing to get your first draft underway.
This class is for you if:
- You're new to short story writing and want to learn in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Write in other genres and want to experiment with literary fiction.
- Already write short stories and struggle to fit reading and writing into a busy life.
- Want to meet other writers in our community.
Expectations outside of class:
- Read 2-3 stories per class session from The Best American Short Stories 2024 anthology, edited by Lauren Groff. (Instructor will be in touch after registration deadline with story assignments) This anthology is available at the Avid Reader in Davis and online (bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, etc)
