The Price of Everything is a one-person play written and performed by Lee Armstrong exploring the uneasy relationship between wealth, control, and chaos in an uncertain universe. It follows Newcastle native Jamie, a jewellery salesman driven by his working-class upbringing, and his migrant familyβs experience of displacement, to believe that financial success is the only safeguard against lifeβs unpredictability.
He achieves wealth but at the cost of his marriage, integrity, and ultimately, his sense of self. Set against the high-pressure opulence of Knightsbridge luxury jewellery world and the stark contrast of Jamieβs roots in the North East, the play interrogates the seductive but destructive pursuit of money and status.
The Price of Everything, provokes its audience to ask: What is security worth? When will enough be enough? And, perhaps, slightly conversely, is the desire for wealth and comfort truly so wrong?
