Television shows have an incredible reach and impact on viewers across the country. With a general election on the horizon, it is important to explore how television demonstrates opportunities for civic participation whether in our neighborhoods, our classrooms, or our voting booths. This discussion will dive into the ways both unscripted and scripted content provide opportunities for viewers to build their civic knowledge and engagement. Speakers will examine the complex relationship between television and democracy, discussing television’s power to entertain and inform audiences outside the newsroom.

Join us for an in-person conversation with:

Valentina Garza, Writer/Producer, The Simpsons, Jane the Virgin

Mark Goffman, Writer/Showrunner, The West Wing, Sleepy Hollow
