About this Event
Our next symposium will address language and how we can challenge inequitable structures implicit in how we communicate with one another. We will explore strategies and solutions to pursue in our sector:
- The right to express oneself in one’s preferred language, toward greater power and inclusion
- Access to translation that determines the quality and availability of services in the US
- Examining cultural constructs that reinforce the dominance of colonial languages
- Centering local, non-dominant and/or ethnic minority languages and decentering dominant languages
- Nuance and veracity lost in translation as we work across cultures
- Inclusive language, decolonizing the terminology used in our sector
We hope that this gathering will provide examples of best practices and useful tools to inform your everyday work.
