The Power of Dignity

Do you want gain the skills and knowledge to help heal the divides in our communities? We invite you to a day-long workshop, “The Power of Dignity,” led by internationally renowned speaker and peacebuilder, Dr. Donna Hicks.

About Dr. Hicks

Dr. Donna Hicks is an Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and the former Deputy Director of the Program on International Conflict Analysis and Resolution. With over two decades of experience, she has facilitated dialogues in numerous unofficial diplomatic efforts across the globe, including the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Colombia, Cuba, Libya, and Syria. Dr. Hicks has also consulted for the BBC in Northern Ireland, co-facilitating a television series with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Why Dignity Matters

Dignity is more than just a concept; it is an internal state of peace that comes with recognizing and accepting the value and vulnerability of all people. When dignity is violated, it often leads to aggression, violence, and hatred. Conversely, when people treat each other with dignity, they create meaningful connections and foster a more humane world.

What You Will Learn
In this workshop, Dr. Hicks will draw on her extensive experience in international conflict resolution and insights from evolutionary biology, psychology, and neuroscience to explore:

 • The Elements of Dignity: Understand what dignity is and why it is crucial in all human interactions.
 • Recognizing Dignity Violations: Learn to identify when dignity is compromised and how to respond effectively.
 • Restoring Relationships: Discover how dignity can heal broken relationships and build stronger connections.
 • Leadership and Dignity: Gain practical strategies for leading with dignity and creating a culture where everyone thrives.

Who Should Attend This workshop is ideal for community leaders across a wide range of domains - nonprofit, politics, education, religious communities - and for anyone interested in improving their interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution skills
