How do you create THE portrait? The portrait that sees into the soul of the subject. The portrait that stays with the viewer and brings tears to their eyes. The portrait that makes the viewer want to hear all about the life stories of the subject. It’s easy to take a good photo; it’s hard to take a photo that people will remember. Let me show you how!
I'm Johanna Siring and I have had a 15 year-long photography career in fashion, music and advertising, shooting for brands like Gucci, Prada and Vogue, and capturing celebrities including Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga. But what I am most well known for is capturing soulful portraits of everyday people through viral projects like "Kiss of a stranger," published by i-D and Vice worldwide, where I shot portraits of people before and after I kissed them, and the project "I Love Strangers" where I photograph people that capture my attention on the street all over the world in viral videos with millions of views.
Join me for an exciting portrait workshop in Bushwick, NYC, where I will share the techniques that I have used for most of these projects and more.
We will meet at a beautiful daylight studio at 56 Bogart Street, Brooklyn, NY, USA. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned photographer, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in capturing the soul and essence of a person through portraiture.
In this 5,5 hour workshop, you'll practice shooting portraits and being portrayed by other students in the class, and you'll gain insight into:
- How to connect with your subject
- How to master full presence and insight as a photographer
- How to use existing light to your favor
- How to work with hardly any gear but your camera
- How to set your camera in a natural light situation
Please note that getting your photo taken will be a vital part of this class. Stepping out of our comfort zones and learning how vulnerable it feels to be on the other side of the lens is an important part of how I teach you to become a more connected and compassionate photographer. I will share more unique techniques and insights, guiding you on the journey to discover your own artistic style and signature, and you will leave with new portraits to add to your existing portfolio or create a new one.
