Join us for a reading of The Poet's Comedy by Claire F. Martin! A comedy about the tragedy of theater under fascism.
Inspired by the Restoration plays he enshrined in theater history, The Poet’s Comedy follows the eight-year playwriting career of young Will Congreve, a law student who exploded onto the London stage in 1692 with a comedy that would change British theater forever. As England begins to reject the licentious liberties of the 17th century in favor of right-wing conservatism, Congreve joins forces with the finest actors of the age to remind his countrymen of the power of Restoration satire and of comedy itself.
