Responding to good poetry brings about deep feelings of well-being and enjoyment. In this course, mostly informal discussion, we will consider how poetry works, using images, forms, and sound qualities. Mostly, though, we will be attentive to personal and cultural connections, to see how poetry can inspire our lives and help create well-being. If you weren’t much of a poetry reader before this class, don’t worry—you will soon become one.The text for the class is Joy: 100 Poems, edited by Christian Wiman. Available on order at our local bookstores: McLean and Eakin, and Between the Covers, as well as online.

Julia Fogarty received her PhD in composition and rhetoric from MSU and had a long career at Delta College, winning awards for her promotion of many new initiatives. She has judged numerous poetry contests and co-edited a prestigious poetry journal.
Skip Renker
Teacher and Author
CTAC Petoskey
Skip Renker taught poetry reading and writing courses and workshops for many years at DeltaCollege. He has several degrees, including an MFA in poetry from Seattle Pacific University.
He’s published 3 books (available on Amazon or from Skip) and his poems have won several local, state, and national awards.
