Han Gan
A duo meeting at the crossroads of punk, post-rock, and psychedelia, Hàn Gắn - taken from the Vietnamese word for heal and comprised of J. Brian Nicewander and Matthew T. Eng formed in the summer of 2017- writing their first songs from the tenth floor of an Alexandria, Virginia high-rise overlooking the Potomac River and U.S. Capitol. When asked about Hàn Gắn’s songwriting process, Brian notes, “It starts with observing and writing about the things we see happening around us, because observations lead to questions. The intention is to invite listeners to question the world around them and to align audiences to what they feel intuitively.” When asked about being a musician, Matt’s advice is to not take it too seriously, “music is to be played and enjoyed. It’s about the journey and how you feel, not what others think. Music is art. Do the art. The rest will come.”
