About this Event
Join fellow Bitcoiners at what looks set to be the most ambitious and exciting Bitcoin Pizza Day event the UK has ever seen!
Each year, May 22 marks the anniversary of the day in 2010 when Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas in the first Bitcoin transaction. The day has become legendary, first because it was the first commercial use of bitcoins, but more so because of Bitcoin's worth in the following years.
The event is being held at the historic Guildhall, a medieval Grade 1 listed building situated in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. The building is one of the oldest civil buildings in the country, with records going back as far as the 1100's. Find out more here.
There will be organised and impromptu events around the town on the day, with many vendors accepting SATS. Grab a haircut at Carters, have a coffee at Alema, enjoy tea and cake at Procupios, go full carnivore at Meat & Greet steakhouse or have a drink at Verve Bar, Nightclub & Pizzeria. Between now and May we aim to onboard more businesses, too.
The focus then shifts to this event in the evening. We are keeping things simple for attendees - your ticket price includes all of the following:
- Entry to the event
- All inclusive bar with a range of alcoholic drinks, zero alcohol beers and soft drinks served in the enclosed grounds (weather permitting!)
- Complimentary artisan pizza from our on-site Pizza truck
- Access to the Vendor Market in the Ballroom with the opportunity to support Bitcoiners selling a variety of products
- A variety of panel discussions in the historic, iconic court room focusing on Bitcoin as a medium of exchange (with counter views from the store of value only crew!). A number of great Britcoiners have been lined up already and will be announced closer to the time
- Opportunity to mingle with fellow Bitcoiners - meet up again with old friends and discover some new ones (just like all the best meetups and conferences!)
This is a great opportunity to enjoy one of the iconic dates in the Bitcoin calndar in a fantastic town with a growing reputation following the BSE conference in September. There are plenty of accommodation options if you'd like to make it a full evening of celebrations, and Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area will give you plenty of options for the Saturday, too.
