The Peter Sommer Quintet returns to the Nocturne stage for this October residency, bringing together a lineup featuring some of the best musicians in Northern Colorado, including Ben Markley (piano), Seth Lewis (bass), and Alejandro CastaƱo (drums). For this Saturday night series, Peter will be celebrating the legacy of one of the greatest creative minds of all time; the late great Wayne Shorter. With a decades-long career synonymous with the evolution of American music - from iconic records with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers to the post-bop explorations of the Second Miles Davis Quintet to the jazz fusion group Weather Report to his own incomparable Quartet - Wayne Shorter's dynamic, inimitable voice as a saxophonist and composer has left an undeniable impact on musicians and listeners alike. Saxophonist Peter Sommer has contributed his energetic and graceful playing and creative spirit to a wide variety of musical projects ranging from mainstream bebop to classic and contemporary concert music to avant-garde improvisations at venues across the nation and around the world. Peter has released six albums as a leader. His latest release, Soulful Songs and Spirits (2022), features his working septet of Front Range jazz masters playing original arrangements and compositions inspired by legends of the art form.
