About this Event

Bright Side Bookshop is excited to host Kevin Fedarko and Robert Breunig on Wednesday, May 29th at 8:00am.

The journey at the center of A Walk in the Park took just over a year to complete, but researching and writing the book required an additional six years—much of which was focused on the heart and soul of the story: the tribes of the Grand Canyon. Bring your coffee to the bookstore and join us for a discussion between Kevin Fedarko and Robert Breunig, former executive director of the Museum of Northern Arizona, who served as the author’s inspiration, lodestar, and guide to the indigenous people of the canyon.

A $5 ticket purchase is required for admission to this event (returned to you as a $5 store voucher). You may also purchase a hardcover copy of A Walk in the Park ($32.50 retail price).

Preorder now for 10% off -- don't delay! We expect this event to sell out fast!

The People of the Canyon: A Coffee Conversation is one of two ticketed events we are hosting at Bright Side Bookshop. If you would like to purchase a ticket for our other event,

Can't make it to either event? If you would like to order a copy of A Walk in the Park to have signed by the author and will not be able to attend this event, please place your order through our website. Include the following note: "I would like this book to be signed by the author during his event on May 28th."

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Kevin Fedarko has spent the past twenty years writing about adventure, exploration, and the Grand Canyon. He has been a staff writer at Time magazine, where he worked primarily on the foreign affairs desk, and a senior editor at Outside. His writing has appeared in National Geographic, the New York Times, and Esquire, among other publications. His first book, The Emerald Mile: The Epic Story of the Fastest Ride in History Through the Heart of the Grand Canyon, which won a National Outdoor Book Award and the Reading the West Book Award, was a New York Times bestseller. He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Robert Breunig first came to Flagstaff in the early 1970s as a professor at Northern Arizona University (NAU) and curator of the Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA). He left Flagstaff in 1982 and over the next twenty-two years served as a museum administrator and executive director at institutions including the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. In 2003 Robert returned to Flagstaff to accept the challenge of restoring MNA’s accreditation and national standing as its executive director, retiring in 2015. He currently teaches with the Grand Canyon Semester program in NAU’s Honors College.
