The Path of Most Resilience—Buddhist Perspectives on Facing AdversityA Daylong Retreat with devon + nico hase
Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Adversity is an inevitable part of life: from illness to loss to the moral injury that comes from witnessing injustice. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. It keeps us engaged, calm, and energized as we continue to serve a world on fire.
In this daylong retreat with nico + devon hase, authors of How Not to Be a Hot Mess: A Buddhist Survival Guide for Modern Life, we will explore teachings and practices that contribute to resilience. We will discuss how hyper-individualism contributes to fragility, and why community is so important for overcoming our obstacles.
We’ll also unpack how meditation can help us balance our hearts and minds so that we can connect with others, navigate the difficulties of shared spaces, and ultimately find resilience in the engaged sangha that our world so desperately needs.
Join us for an engaging day of stories, reflections, and meditations about how Buddhist teachings and practices contribute to our resilience in the face of life’s challenges.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($50, $70, $89, or $108 or scholarship options of $25 or $0) supports our non-profit, which pays the costs of the website, administration, building, etc. In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teachers of the retreat are not compensated but rather share the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. At the end, you are invited to make a donation to support the teachers in continuing their valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
DATE: Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
