About this Event
RESOUNDING SILENTS, Brooklyn Art Haus' in-house silent film series is so excited for their second season with a fan favorite from their 2024 season - the profound and haunting masterpiece of silent cinema, "THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC," directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer in 1928, LIVE SCORED with a new original score by Glenna Cureton - February 21st and 22nd at Brooklyn Art Haus!
Dreyer's film captures the trial and ultimate martyrdom of Joan of Arc with a stark intensity that remains unparalleled. Through stark close-ups and minimalistic set design, Dreyer focuses on the emotional and spiritual journey of Joan, portrayed with striking vulnerability and fervor by Renée Jeanne Falconetti.
Accompanying this cinematic tour de force is a new original score composed and performed live by violinist-composer and Resounding Silents veteran Glenna Cureton. Drawing from a rich palette of musical influences, Cureton's score intertwines elements of Gregorian Chant, French folk music and contemporary classical influences to mirror the emotional depth and complexity of Joan's journey. With her adventurous score, Cureton adds a layer of resonance that deepens the film's impact and transports the audience to the heart of Joan's experience.
The powerful marriage of Dreyer's imagery and storytelling with the evocative soundscape crafted by Cureton invites us to contemplate themes of faith, sacrifice and the resilience of the human spirit, resonating across time and space. We invite you to immerse yourself in this unique cinematic and musical experience, where the silence of the film is transformed into a resounding symphony of emotions, leaving an indelible mark on your soul.
