Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson, clarinets
Michiko Ogawa, clarinets
Michael Thieke, clarinet
SAM DUNSCOMBE's composition is about different levels of time—cyclical and linear—that interlock and play with ambivalences of perception. Sam's score works with graphic elements, which allow the instrumentalists a certain creative freedom within clear structural guidelines. The body of a large clarinet ensemble is already familiar to Sam through her sensational arrangement of Horaţiu Rădulescu's Capricorn's Nostalgic Crickets for seven clarinets. (salty-media.com)
KAI FAGASCHINSKI's work explores not only sound phenomena such as beats and difference tones, but also the spatial localization of the sounds. In this work, tones and noises wander through the ensemble (and thus through the room), as one might find in a multi-channel installation. So far, Fagaschinski is known mainly for his collective compositions for The International Nothing (with Michael Thieke). Welcome to the 20th Century is his first composition for large ensemble. The PARANORMAL CLARINET SOCIETY is a newly formed composer/performer clarinet octet bringing together musicians from diverse musical backgrounds (from academic to self-taught) and production styles (composed, improvised and conceptual music).
