About this Event
Join us Nov. 14 for The Oaklandside’s Culture Makers for an energetic and timely conversation on the intersection of art and activism. Featuring a powerhouse lineup of culture makers—Emmy Award winning comedian, author, and filmmaker W. Kamau Bell, writer and artist Maddy Clifford, and award-winning writer, performer and filmmaker Josh Healey—this event will explore how creative expression can navigate conflict and ignite movements for change.
Moderated by Arts & Community reporter Azucena Rasilla, this conversation will dive into the ways art challenges power, amplifies voices, and shapes public consciousness. Through humor, poetry, and storytelling, these artists will share their personal journeys and discuss the power of art to inspire action and effect lasting change.
The evening will also feature powerful performances by local Oakland youth poets, Ellis Chhourn, 2024 Vice Youth Poet Laureate and Cael Dueñas-Lara, 2024 Youth Poet Laureate Finalist offering their unique perspectives on art, identity, and activism.
