― Percy Bysshe Shelley

🂡 Nancy Mackenzie is an Edmonton-based poet writing, editing, and riding on the land known as amiskwaciwâskahikan (Beaver Hills House). She has 4 books of poetry and a novel published by Ekstasis Editions, 5 self-published chapbooks, including one for sale tonight; 1 poetry book and cd published by her 20-year + writing group (Five Magpie Press); 3 books for children published by Reidmore Books and Plains Publishing, and an ethics primer published by Three Rascals Press. Nancy is a professional writer and editor operating as Bronze Horse Communications, recently working on the review of a Provincial Act of legislation, a PhD thesis, and a novel for clients. Her love of a dressage horse named Rowan will canter through some of poems. Nancy is writing a science fiction/fantasy novel about the effects of mining Earth’s resources on Dragon-People, the Ælfen, and Nixies, not to mention humans! Her poetry introduces themes of what Fred Wah calls “a philosophy of is-ness.” Calvin Wharton writes, “Mackenzie’s skill at weaving together the mythological, the ecological, and the personal, is matched by her coincident awareness of the beautiful and the magical hidden in plain sight all around her.” And Lorri Neilsen Glenn writes, “Like Nancy Mackenzie’s ancestors, we pull up our chairs to her hearth, drawn in by the fire and clarity of her spirit and her words. Here is a poet who offers us not only the wild and the raven, but a glass of the finest, purest river.
🂡 Kathy Fisher is an Edmonton-based, Montreal-born multidisciplinary artist, performance poet and documentarian.
“Her poems are beautiful narratives, a lyrical weave of words that move you through the stories she wants to tell about life, death and everything in between." ~ Edmonton Examiner
