About this Event

This fall semester, NYU became the first US university to extend Title VI protections to anyone who adheres to Zionism, a nationalist political ideology. This development means that faculty, students, and staff may be found in violation of the university's Nondiscrimination and Anti-Harassment policy for criticism of Zionism or Zionists, with chilling implications for campus freedoms of all kinds, including academic freedom in the classroom and the right to protest.

This teach-in will feature lawyers and legal scholars from Palestine Legal, Boston University School of Law, and NYU who will discuss the political context and legal implications of this disturbing development in the ongoing repression of pro-Palestinian speech and activism on our campus and beyond.

Speakers:

Radhika Sainath, Senior Staff Attorney, Palestine Legal

Jonathan Feingold, Boston University School of Law

Liam Murphy, NYU School of Law

Moderated by Jamil Dakwar, NYU Gallatin

This teach-in is part of NYU Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine's educational programming. Co-sponsored by the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and the Department of English, NYU.
