About this Event
Anyone who's ever been to a poetry slam has likely heard the phrase "NEW SH!T" yelled in response to someone announcing they're reading a brand new poem on the mic. Now dare to ask, what if EVERY poem in the show was being read out loud to an audience for the first time ever?
THIS IS THE NEW SH!T SLAM!
This show will have both a poetry open mic and a poetry slam. All poets who participate in this event, both open mic and slam, must bring work that has never before been read on a microphone. This could be a poem written the day of the event, or a poem written 10 years ago that's never seen the light of day. (We ask all readers to please honor this theme and not try to sneak pre-established work into the event.)
The New Sh!t Slam is a fundraiser for the Bigfoot Poetry Festival. There is a suggested $10 donation. People who donate a certain amount or more will be entered for raffle item(s).
Open mic poets get 4 minutes to share one or two poems. Slam poets must come prepared with three pieces that are all 3 minutes or less (lest point deductions come into play). Everyone reading must bring work that they have written themselves.
Our venue for this event will be Honey Latte (1033 SE Main St). Honey Latte is an ADA compliant location.
Sign ups / seating begins at 6:30 pm. Show starts at 7:00 pm.
