Join us for a glass of bubbles to celebrate the exhibition THE NATURAL WORLD.
Accompanying the beginning of Spring, ‘The Natural World’ pays homage to the beauty of nature through an invigorating depiction of flora and fauna.
Paintings by Joanne Sisson feature Indigenous and non-indigenous plants sitting side by side, gathered from her unruly garden. The elegance of twinning vines and bending grasses speak of the gentle movements of plants as they unfold and grow.
Accompanying these still-life paintings, sculptures by Jane du Rand feature native flora and fauna she encounters while bushwalking west of Brisbane. Reminiscent of dioramas found in natural history museums - these works are a contemporary sculptural version of the early natural history illustrations and specimen displays that existed in the Victorian era.
